Tips on cultivating a healthy discussion-based chat room

Your chat room is a space where members can always go to actively seek support from you and from each other! Important connections and community are established in the space and can often lead to a higher attendance in meetings. In order to cultivate meaningful conversations and build a supportive community we would encourage you to consider the suggestions below.

  • Schedule and announce check-ins. Notify members in advance when you’ll be active in the chat room. A simple post inviting them to join you for a conversation on a specific day and time can spark participation and anticipation.

  • Show up daily. Aim to post at least once every 24 hours. Your consistent presence reassures members and keeps the space feeling active and welcoming.

  • Spark conversation. Share discussion prompts, thought-provoking quotes, or brief encouraging messages. Even a small post can invite reflection and conversation.

  • Acknowledge every voice. Respond to each person who contributes. A quick reply or thoughtful comment lets members know they’re seen and valued.

  • Share what’s coming up. Use the chat room to highlight upcoming video-based support group meetings. It’s a great way to keep members informed and engaged beyond the chat itself.
