Avoid In‑App Browsers When Joining a Meeting

Online meetings on HeyPeers work best when they open in a recommended browser. Email and social media apps on these devices often open links inside their own small “in‑app browsers,” which cannot run online meetings. The JOIN MEETING button in your reminder email will still take you to the meeting’s Join page, but the meeting itself may not load after you tap JOIN if you're inside one of these in‑app browsers.

This article explains how to make sure your meeting opens in a real browser like Safari (iPhone/iPad) or Chrome (Android).

Why meetings don’t load in email or social media apps

Many mobile apps include their own built‑in mini‑browsers. These in‑app browsers:
  • cannot access your camera or microphone
  • cannot run HeyPeers Meetings
  • may block Zoom from launching
  • look similar to a real browser, so it’s easy not to notice
This is why you may see an incompatibility message when joining a Zoom meeting, or enter a HeyPeers Meeting but experience audio or video issues, when the meeting opens inside an in‑app browser.

How to open your meeting in a supported browser

iPhone or iPad (iOS)

  • Safari is the recommended browser for HeyPeers Meetings on iOS.
  • Zoom meetings can open in Safari or the Zoom app.

To open your meeting correctly:
  1. Open Safari.
  2. Go to heypeers.com and sign in.
  3. Tap My Meetings.
  4. Find your meeting and tap Join from inside Safari.
If you tapped the link from an email app (AOL, Yahoo Mail, Gmail, Apple Mail) or a social app (Facebook, Instagram, TikTok), the meeting may have opened inside that app instead of Safari.

Android phones and tablets

  • Chrome is the recommended browser for HeyPeers Meetings on Android.
  • Zoom meetings can open in Chrome or the Zoom app.

To open your meeting correctly:

  1. Open Chrome.
  2. Go to heypeers.com and sign in.
  3. Tap My Meetings.
  4. Find your meeting and tap Join from inside Chrome.
If you tapped the link from the Gmail app, Yahoo Mail app, Samsung Email app, Facebook, Instagram, or TikTok, the meeting may have opened inside that app instead of Chrome.

How to tell if you’re in an in‑app browser

You may be in an in‑app browser if you see:
  • a top bar with the name of the app (AOL, Yahoo Mail, Gmail, Facebook, Instagram)
  • no address bar or a very small one
  • no tabs
  • no browser menu (no share icon, no bookmarks, no settings)
If you notice any of these, close the page and open the meeting from Safari (iOS) or Chrome (Android).
