Promoting your services

As a HeyPeers Peer Supporter, you're encouraged to actively promote your services and connect with more peers in need of support. The great news? Simply by joining HeyPeers, your offerings are now visible to thousands of users across the platform.

To help spread the word, we've compiled tips for promoting your services both within the HeyPeers community and externally through social media.

Important Reminder:

Under HeyPeers Terms & Conditions, Peer Supporters may not advertise or solicit business for any external services—including their own—within HeyPeers meetings, chat rooms, or messages.

Internal promotion

Create a chat room

Create chat rooms and actively participate in conversations to increase visibility within the HeyPeers Community. While not every member posts regularly, thousands are quietly observing and gaining value from what's shared.

By contributing consistently, you showcase your knowledge, reliability, and commitment to peer support. It’s also a great opportunity to share direct links to your upcoming HeyPeers meetings, inviting others to connect and engage.

Offer programs or mini-series with multiple meetings

Whether you're certified in a particular peer support approach or simply have a great book idea for a club discussion, creating a special program series is a meaningful way to engage the HeyPeers community. These unique offerings can foster deeper connection and trust with your meeting participants, opening the door to new opportunities and lasting relationships.

Finding your niche

To connect meaningfully with potential participants, consider refining your focus to a specific community within a broader topic. This approach, called “niching down,” can make your support group more relatable and impactful.

For instance, while there are many general groups for individuals living with depression, you might choose to tailor your meetings to a more defined audience, such as:

  • LGBTQ+ community

  • young adults navigating early adulthood
  • individuals managing depression with chronic illness
  • professionals coping with depression in the workplace

By offering a targeted series, you increase the likelihood of building trust, fostering connection, and creating space where participants feel truly understood.

Social media promotion

Creating a presence on platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and X (formerly Twitter) is a great way to expand your reach and promote your HeyPeers Peer Supporter services. By sharing your HeyPeers profile link, you allow your social media community to learn more about your offerings and connect with you.

Here are a few tips to help you make the most of your social media efforts:

  • Design eye-catching graphics
Use tools like Canva, a free and user-friendly platform, to create visuals that highlight your upcoming support groups, one-on-one coaching sessions, and chat rooms.
  • Post regularly
Stay engaged by consistently sharing updates about the meetings you host, the chats you facilitate, and the peer coaching you provide.
  • Use relevant hashtags
Boost visibility by adding hashtags to your posts that reflect your expertise and lived experience. Always include core tags like #peer, #peersupport, along with niche-specific ones based on your topic focus.

When posting about your HeyPeers services, don’t forget to tag @heypeers and use relevant hashtags to help your content get discovered. Suggested hashtags include:

Themed meetings

Promoting meetings around specific topics, events, or milestones can increase engagement and create meaningful spaces for your participants. One great way to do this is by aligning your meetings with national and global awareness days, holidays, or even seasonal transitions.

Consider centering a meeting around one of the following themes:

  • Mental Health Awareness Month (May): Host a series on anxiety, depression, or self-care practices.
  • World Suicide Prevention Day (September 10): Facilitate a space focused on hope, resilience, and shared stories.
  • Men’s Mental Health Awareness Month (June): Offer groups that explore emotional expression, dismantling stigma, and building supportive spaces for men to share openly.

  • LGBTQ+ Pride Month (June): Create inclusive support groups spotlighting lived experiences and identity.
  • Chronic Illness Awareness Weeks: Provide sessions tailored to navigating mental health while managing physical conditions.
  • Back-to-School Season (August/September): Support students or parents facing academic and emotional challenges.
  • Workplace Mental Health (October): Focus on stress management, burnout prevention, and workplace dynamics.
