How to Tell If Your Meeting Uses Zoom or HeyPeers Meetings

Online meetings on HeyPeers use one of two meeting platforms: Zoom or our own embedded HeyPeers Meetings. Knowing which platform your session uses helps you understand what to expect when you join and which browser or app you may need.

Where to check your meeting platform

You can check your meeting platform by reviewing the meeting tile on your My Meetings page. The tile will show whether your session is hosted via Zoom or a HeyPeers Meeting.

This information appears directly under the meeting date and time.

What each platform looks like

Zoom

When you click the Join button to enter your meeting, you will see an entry page, which lists the name of your meeting along with some additional information and/or instructions.  A Zoom meeting will always be identified on this page.
When you click or tap on Enter Now to enter your meeting, a new Zoom window will appear. If you already have the app loaded on your device, entering the meeting will be automated. If you don't, you may see a prompt asking to open the Zoom app (mobile/tablet) or a browser‑based Zoom join page (desktop).

HeyPeers Meeting

The HeyPeers meetings are embedded into the HeyPeers website. The meeting will open directly in your browser. Upon entry you will see a pre‑meeting check screen. Its purpose is to give you a quiet moment to make sure everything on your device is ready before you enter the live meeting space.

Note: If you join the meeting using an in‑app browser, the meeting may load but have audio or video issues. Get help here to fix it: Avoid In‑App Browsers When Joining a Meeting

What to expect based on your meeting platform

The two meeting platforms behave differently, especially when it comes to how you join and what you may see on your device.

Zoom

  • On desktop or laptop, Zoom may open in your browser or in the Zoom Workplace App, depending on your settings.
  • On mobile devices, Zoom may prompt you to open the Zoom mobile app.
  • If you try to join from an in‑app browser on mobile (inside email or social apps), Zoom may show an incompatibility message and will not launch.

HeyPeers Meetings

  • Runs directly in your browser on all devices.
  • On iPhone or iPad, the recommended browser is Safari.
  • On Android phones and tablets, the recommended browser is Chrome.
  • On Windows computers, the recommended browser is Chrome, though other modern browsers may work.
  • On macOS computers, the recommended browsers are Safari or Chrome, though other modern browsers may work.
  • If opened inside an in‑app browser on mobile, the meeting may load but have audio or video issues.
