How to turn chat browser notifications back on

This article explains how to re-enable browser push notifications for HeyPeers chat rooms, especially if you previously clicked “Unsubscribe” or stopped receiving alerts.

What Are Browser Push Notifications?

Browser push notifications are short alerts sent directly to your web browser, even when you’re not actively using HeyPeers. They appear as pop-up messages (usually in the corner of your screen) and notify you of new chat messages or activity in real time.

These are not emails and do not appear in your inbox. Instead, they’re managed by your browser (like Chrome, Edge, or Firefox) and can be turned on or off in your browser’s settings.

Step 1: Make sure your chat notifications aren’t muted in HeyPeers

Before adjusting your browser settings, check that your chat notifications are enabled within HeyPeers. Follow this guide to review your chat room notification settings: Manage your chat notifications

Step 2: Make sure notifications are allowed for HeyPeers

For Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Brave, or Opera:
  • Open your browser and go to: chrome://settings/content/notifications
  • Scroll to Allowed to send notifications and find heypeers.com.
  • If HeyPeers is blocked:
    - Visit heypeers.com
    - Click the padlock icon next to the URL
    - Set Notifications to Allow
    - Refresh the page

For Firefox:

  • Go to: about:preferences#privacy
  • Scroll to Permissions > Notifications and click Settings…
  • Find heypeers.com in the list:
    - If it’s set to Block, change it to Allow

For Safari (Mac):

  • Open System Settings > Notifications
  • Find Safari in the app list and make sure notifications are allowed
  • Then open Safari and visit heypeers.com
  • If prompted, click Allow when asked about notifications

Step 3: Reset “Unsubscribe” Preferences (Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Brave, and Opera Browsers Only)

  • Open Settings
    For Chrome, go to chrome://settings/content/notifications

  • Find HeyPeers in the Site List
Under “Allowed to send notifications”, locate heypeers.com
Click the three-dot menu next to it. Choose “Remove”

  • Remove and Re-add Permission
If you remove the site from the list, Chrome will prompt for permission again next time HeyPeers tries to send a notification. This resets any hidden “unsubscribed” rules Chrome may have stored.
