What is an independent Peer Supporter?

An independent Peer Supporter on HeyPeers is someone whose personal life experiences led them to seek peer support. Inspired by the benefits they received, they chose to give back by becoming a Certified or Licensed Peer Specialist. Through professional training, they’re equipped to support others on their own wellness journeys.

At HeyPeers, all independent Peer Supporters who offer services must:

  • Be at least 18 years old.
  • Hold certification or licensure as a Peer Specialist.
  • Receive approval from HeyPeers staff.

Once approved, independent Peer Supporters can create a public profile so users can learn more about them and the services they offer. On HeyPeers, they may facilitate video-based online support groups, host one-on-one coaching sessions, and lead community chat rooms.
